This sounds like <http://bugs.squid-cache.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3553>
which was fixed in Squid-3.5.8

Please try an upgraded package. Eliezer provides more up to date
packages for CentOS which you can find through
<http://wiki.squid-cache.org/KnowledgeBase/CentOS>
