Just as a side note:
I have tested and compared RAM only squid FreeBSD VS Linux and it seems like FreeBSD tests results shows drastically slower speeds then on Linux.
The bug report can be seen at:

The same machine SPECS with RAM only showed a big difference between Linux which took about 4k RPS while the same machine with FreeBSD could took only about 400-800 RPS.

If you can respond to the bug report with information on what system you are using and other details it will help to determine the issue source.
