Dear community,

I am running squid3 on Linux Debian squeeze.(3.1.6).

I encounter a suddenly a high memory usage on my virtual machine don't
really know why.
Looking at the cacti memory graph is showing a memory jump from 1.5 Gb
to 4GB and then ther server started to swap.

For information the virtual machine has 4Gb of RAM.

Here is the settings of squid.conf :

cache_dir ufs /var/spool/squid3 100 16 256
cache_mem 100 MB

hierarchy_stoplist cgi-bin ?
refresh_pattern ^ftp: 1440 20% 10080
refresh_pattern ^gopher: 1440 0% 1440
refresh_pattern -i (/cgi-bin/|\?) 0 0% 0
refresh_pattern . 0 20% 4320

my squid3 process is using: 81% of my RAM. So arround 3,2Gb of memory.

proxy 25889 0.6 81.1 3937744 3299616 ? S Aug02 9:34
(squid) -YC -f /etc/squid3/squid.conf

I am currently having arround 50 users using it.

I did have a look at the FAQ
(http://wiki.squid-cache.org/SquidFaq/SquidMemory#how-much-ram), but I
didn't find any tips for my situation in it.

Have you got any idea ? How can I troubleshoot this ?

Thanks !

is this a replicated VM by any chance?
