Hmm, ten second gap. Could be the icons killing this, or something
else. It looks like a normal "-k shutdown" or SIGHUP was received by
the master process.

yes, this was a normal shutdown after it started.


Great. Okay. You have the non-working startup trace then?

yes, that was the attachment that I sent a bit later.

however, since I traced the problem down to it being unable to write the pid file I don't know how much value there is in going through it (other than figuring out how to make the error more understandable)
