The Squid HTTP Proxy team is very pleased to announce the
availability of the Squid-3.1.9 release!

This release brings a long list of bug fixes and some further HTTP/1.1 improvements into 3.1.

Several small memory leaks have been found and fixed in the Netdb, DNS, ICAP, ICY, and HTTPS protocol handling. The leaks are very small but accumulate per request. Production sites with a lot of traffic and/or long proxy uptimes may find an upgrade to this release helps with long-term memory usage.

Strange warnings about LFS (large file support) in the cache during startup have been tracked down to an error in the swap.state journal upgrade process causing false warnings. This release fixes the upgrade and silences resolves the warnings.

Several crashes during helper failure recovery, ICAP failure recovery, and the old dnsserver have been resolved.

Several Solaris problems are resolved with most notable being /dev/poll support ported from 2.7. Thanks to BBC (UK) and Seimens (UK) for their sponsorship there.

HTTP/1.1 support has also had a few more improvements:
  - delete Warnings that have warning-date different from Date
  - do not remove ETag header from partial responses
  - make date parser stricter to better handle malformed Expires
  - improve age calculation
  - reply with a 504 error if required validation fails
  - add appropriate Warnings if serving a stale hit
  - support requests with Cache-Control: min-fresh
  - do not cache replies to requests with Cache-Control: no-store

See the ChangeLog for the list of other minor changes in this release.

All users of older Squid are encouraged to upgrade as time permits.
