Performance of ntlm_auth vs squid_ldap_auth

Anyone have any info on ntlm_auth vs squid_ldap_auth?

I'm being told that ntlm_auth is a performance killer.

Basically I just need to be able to log the NT users and looking for
the fastest way to do that.
