Ubuntu 8.04 aka Hardy, still packages with STABLE1. The LFS improvements
are only documented from STABLE2 onward.

Daniele, try grabbing a newer squid package, the one from Intrepid should
work on Hardy without trouble. Or better yet build your own from more up to
date sources.
