It looks like there is a package for Debian for doing this
(http://packages.debian.org/sid/squid-prefetch), but we are running
squid on CentOS :(

Maybe
you could write an url_rewrite helper that would just send back the url
unchanged and, at the same time, launch a job that would wget through
squid the url 1 depth bellow...
