Subject: Re: Squid started but no function
hi all,
i am using squid 2.6 STABLE5-7, after set all the settings in
squid.conf,
it
works very prefectly and no error message. But everytimes i restarted
the
proxy server, i can see the squid service is ON there, but all my user
unable to surf net. i need to manually restart the squid service again,
then
all user only can access net. why? is it a bug?
Not much detail to base an answer on there.
Operating System?
SuSE open source 10.2
Self-build or a packaged squid?
packaged squid which came from SuSE
Is squid being run as root like it should?
Yes, squid run as root
Can you upgrade to a recent Squid (2.6 STABLE 20 is now out)?
havent tried, is it because of version?
Maybe, first reason to upgrade is to find that out.
Many other better reasons to upgrade too, stable5 is very old.
http://www.squid-cache.org/Advisories for two.
How is the automatic restart happening?
i set in "crontab -e" to restart the server weekly. the code is "5 1 * *
1 /sbin/shutdown -r now"
If you need to restart a linux/BSD server weekly you have much larger
problems than squid...
What is your cache.log file saying about the running of squid?

Looks like its working.
Maybe the startup script doing something weird (might be as quirky as
starting before an auto-sensing FW on reboot)
Any other related setup not directly with the squid.conf? (ie
transparent,
PAC, WCCP)
No.
