Hi,

I was wondering how much memory is OK for 1 GB cache size. I went
through many sites and e-books and they all mentioned different
things. However, most of the sites said its either 32 MB or 10 MB for
1 GB cache size.

I know that its only a rule of thumb and squid requires memory for
other things besides this also.

Thanks in advance

The wiki (http://wiki.squid-cache.org/SquidFaq/SquidMemory#head-09818ad4cb8a1dfea1f51688c41bdf4b79a69991) gives 10 MB RAM per GB of cache.

Given a cache_mem of 8MB and a cache_dir of 2 GB, I average around 30MB of RAM used total (22-38) in a sample set of about 100 servers.
