Assuming that you installed Squid from an RPM, "chkconfig squid on" will
do the trick.
Otherwise, find attached a startup script that should work. I've
mangled it from what I use to reference the default Squid path
(/usr/local/squid), which may or may not work for your set up. In any
case, copy the file to /etc/init.d, change any paths that need changing,
and run a "service squid status". If that gives you the expected
result, "chkconfig squid on" should set squid to start (and stop)
automatically.
"Should" is the operative word in the above paragraph.
The last, simplest and least graceful option is " echo
/usr/local/squid/sbin/squid >> /etc/rc.local". That will call the squid
binary every time your system starts. No guarantees that Squid will be
shut down properly on system shutdown/restart.
