Hello, I've been running squid-2.6stable6 quite happily for some time on a 32bit RHEL5 server. Today squid crashed and refused to come back up, even after a reboot, with the error "FATAL: the url_rewriter helpers are crashing too rapidly, need help!" The full cache.log is as follows: 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Starting Squid Cache version 2.6.STABLE6 for i686-redhat-linux-gnu... 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Process ID 3081 2007/08/30 11:42:10| With 1024 file descriptors available 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Using epoll for the IO loop 2007/08/30 11:42:10| DNS Socket created at 0.0.0.0, port 32782, FD 5 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Adding nameserver 192.168.0.1 from /etc/resolv.conf 2007/08/30 11:42:10| helperOpenServers: Starting 20 'squidGuard' processes 2007/08/30 11:42:10| helperStatefulOpenServers: Starting 30 'ntlm_auth' processes 2007/08/30 11:42:10| helperOpenServers: Starting 5 'ntlm_auth' processes 2007/08/30 11:42:10| User-Agent logging is disabled. 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Referer logging is disabled. 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Unlinkd pipe opened on FD 65 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Swap maxSize 102400 KB, estimated 7876 objects 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Target number of buckets: 393 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Using 8192 Store buckets 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Max Mem size: 8192 KB 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Max Swap size: 102400 KB 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Local cache digest enabled; rebuild/rewrite every 3600/3600 sec 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Rebuilding storage in /var/spool/squid (DIRTY) 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Using Least Load store dir selection 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Set Current Directory to /var/spool/squid 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Loaded Icons. 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Accepting proxy HTTP connections at 0.0.0.0, port 8081, FD 67. 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Accepting ICP messages at 0.0.0.0, port 3130, FD 68. 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Accepting SNMP messages on port 3401, FD 69. 2007/08/30 11:42:10| WCCP Disabled. 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Ready to serve requests. 2007/08/30 11:42:10| WARNING: url_rewriter #20 (FD 25) exited 2007/08/30 11:42:10| WARNING: url_rewriter #19 (FD 24) exited 2007/08/30 11:42:10| WARNING: url_rewriter #14 (FD 19) exited 2007/08/30 11:42:10| WARNING: url_rewriter #18 (FD 23) exited 2007/08/30 11:42:10| WARNING: url_rewriter #17 (FD 22) exited 2007/08/30 11:42:10| WARNING: url_rewriter #16 (FD 21) exited 2007/08/30 11:42:10| WARNING: url_rewriter #15 (FD 20) exited 2007/08/30 11:42:10| WARNING: url_rewriter #13 (FD 18) exited 2007/08/30 11:42:10| WARNING: url_rewriter #12 (FD 17) exited 2007/08/30 11:42:10| WARNING: url_rewriter #11 (FD 16) exited 2007/08/30 11:42:10| Too few url_rewriter processes are running FATAL: The url_rewriter helpers are crashing too rapidly, need help! I have tried upping url_rewrite_children from 4 to 20, and the same thing happened when I tried starting squid. Where can I start trying to figure this one out? Thanks, Gavin
