Not yet decided when/if this will show up in 2.6, but it's likely as lots of people seem to have trouble to get this right, and there is also lots of misunderstandings of what is required.. http://www.squid-cache.org/Versions/v2/HEAD/changesets/11517.patch with a followup patch at http://www.squid-cache.org/Versions/v2/HEAD/changesets/11518.patch which cleans up filedescriptor limit management a bit (not strictly required).
