Hi Rainhard,

Stop squid. Try deleting your swap.state.new file and restart it. By the way, which user/group are you starting squid?

Check your relevant squid and  /appl/squid-cache directories for appropriate permissions. Also have you check the size of your access.log, cache.log or store.log sizes. They could just be more than 2 GB in sizes but I am just guessing. 

If none of the above works, your best bet would be to delete your cache_dir and recreate it! 

But I really suggest you to download the latest version of squid. You will really love and appreciate it's benefits.
