If your manager knows that Squid will do it, I'd suggest you get him to configure it and then explain to you what he did to get it to work! As I see it you have several options: 1. Put squid in-line, as an intercepting proxy (con: when it goes down you lose everything). 2. Use WCCP if you have a WCCP capable router. 3. Use a mirrored port and software like packit. 4. Get the specialist in to prove you right.
