That must be it. the cache.log is full of this type of entry: [2007/04/08 20:41:45, 1] libsmb/ntlmssp.c:ntlmssp_update(267) got NTLMSSP command 3, expected 1 I followed a Mozilla bug report on this issue which mentioned the same squid/gmail prompting issue I am experiencing: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?query_format=specific&order=relevance+desc&bug_status=__open__&id=318253 It looks like it may be resolved in Firefox 2 so I have moved to 2.0.x I also made several suggested changes to about:config in Firefox which were suggested as helping ntlm and Firefox.
