Matus, thanks for the response.  I'm using a seperate hosts file just
for squid (/etc/squid/hosts), so can squid's internal DNS recognize a
domain instead of an individual host?

no, at least not with /etc/hosts.

wouldn't be specifying destination IP range easier?

Never heard about that. DNS server could do that but I think it's not
important, see above.
