It should be in the process list indeed..

What child processes of Squid do you see in the process listing?

Hmm.. looks like Squid thinks there is basic auth helpers running.

Note: The version of Squid you are using is a bit dated. Current
supported version is 2.6.STABLE10, with 2.6.STABLE11 just around the
corner..
