in case its a timeout issue with dns (assuming the sites work) you can specify your dns server(s) in the config too, with: dns_nameservers 1.2.3.4 2.3.4.5 etc. you could (i always have) run bind on the proxy machine and specify the local machine in dns_nameservers, thats usually fastest.
