[root@sdprx01 ~]# rpm -q squid squid-2.5.STABLE6-3.4E.12 [root@sdprx01 ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 2) squid isn't using the "search" line in /etc/resolv.conf On the command line, I can ping a host name: [root@sdprx01 ~]# ping sddmz01 PING sddmz01.internal.domain (10.3.3.8) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from sddmz01.internal.domain (10.3.3.8): icmp_seq=0 ttl=63 time=0.445 ms 64 bytes from sddmz01.internal.domain (10.3.3.8): icmp_seq=1 ttl=63 time=0.327 ms But when I try to go to http://sddmz01/ I get: The requested URL could not be retrieved While trying to retrieve the URL: http://sddmz01/ The following error was encountered: Unable to determine IP address from host name for sddmz01 The dnsserver returned: Server Failure: The name server was unable to process this query. This means that: The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL. Check if the address is correct. http://sddmz01.internal.domain works/ just fine. There is nothing in any of the log files that sheds any additional light. -- *********************************************************************** * John Oliver http://www.john-oliver.net/ * * * ***********************************************************************
