Will it not overwrite my config. I have downloaded the .diff I taje it
that's correct and updates squid only ?

How did you install the earlier release?

Generally just follow the same procedure for installing the new version,
then restart Squid to activate the new version. This assuming you are
running 2.6.STABLE1.
