i see. so i can work around this for now by splitting my cache_dir
into multiple ones? it's currently set at 300GB.

Yes, there is a limit of 2^24 objects per cache_dir.

How large cache_dir do you have? 2^24 files normally translates to
somewhere around 160 GB.


Please file a bug report on this issue. Squid should not crash only
because there is very many objects in the cache.
