The url I used was: http://www.livejournal.com/
This url works fine without using squid.

The error I recieved was:

ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: /

Is the site using https for part of the content? Then you are most likely experiencing MSIE bugs related to persistent connections.

There is two solutions, either:

a) "client_persistent_connections off" in squid.conf, with the negative effect that normal browsing is somewhat slower, especially for dialup or long-distance WAN users.

b) Configure the browser with slightly different proxy settings for the https proxy. Either a different port, or a different hostname pointing to the same proxy.
