I'm working here trying to get ntlm with squid working. I can get ntlm_auth
--username to work and it asks for a password and that works. I mistype the

./squid -NCd1 that is where I get the ntlmauthenticator helpers are crashing
too rapidly.

What is said in cache.log between where Squid says it starts the NTLM helpers up to the point where it complains on them crashing?

Can you run ntlm_auth as your cache_effective_user? Testing as root is one thing, for a real test you need to test as the cache_effective_user.
