can anyone shortly describe the difference between the "transparent" and
"accel" flags for the "http_port" option? (For Squid 3 (20050524))

transparent is when you transparently intercept port 80 requests by firewall port redirection or similar forcing internal clients to use the proxy even if their browser is not configured to use it. This flag is likely to change to "intercept" for the final 3.0 release to match official terminology.

accel is when Squid acts as a surrogate server / accelerator infront of your web servers, with the public DNS record for the sites pointing to Squid.
