Dear All
At one of installation (Fedora Core 3), requirement arises for squid
compilation with --enable-arp-acl. I tried to install
squid-2.5-STABLE8. Steps followed -.

(1)
removed running squid by running -
# rpm -e squid
(2)
untarred the tar ball squid squid-2.5.STABLE8.tar.gz
(3) run
 # make distclean
(4)
copied the running squid comilation option by running 'squid -v' from
a working squid box. Appended --enable-arp-acl in the option list.
Thus configured the source as below.

./configure --host=i386-redhat-linux --build=i386-redhat-linux
--target=i386-redhat-linux-gnu --program-prefix= --prefix=/usr
--exec-prefix=/usr --bindir=/usr/bin --sbindir=/usr/sbin
--sysconfdir=/etc --datadir=/usr/share --includedir=/usr/include
--libdir=/usr/lib --libexecdir=/usr/libexec --localstatedir=/var
--sharedstatedir=/usr/com --mandir=/usr/share/man
--infodir=/usr/share/info --exec_prefix=/usr --bindir=/usr/sbin
--libexecdir=/usr/lib/squid --localstatedir=/var
--sysconfdir=/etc/squid --enable-poll --enable-snmp
--enable-removal-policies=heap,lru
--enable-storeio=aufs,coss,diskd,null,ufs --enable-ssl
--with-openssl=/usr/kerberos --enable-delay-pools
--enable-linux-netfilter --with-pthreads
--enable-basic-auth-helpers=LDAP,NCSA,PAM,SMB,SASL,MSNT
--enable-ntlm-auth-helpers=SMB,winbind
--enable-external-acl-helpers=ip_user,ldap_group,unix_group,wbinfo_group,winbind_group
--enable-auth=basic,ntlm --with-winbind-auth-challenge
--enable-useragent-log --enable-referer-log
 --enable-arp-acl

(5)
Finally run 'make' and 'make install'.

I DIDNOT GET ANY ERROR OR WARNING. COMPLITE LOG ARE ON
http://nansari.cjb.net/squid.html

PROBLEMS ARE-

- THOUGH I AM USING EARLIER WORKING squid.conf (http_port 8080) , AND
SQUID IS BEING STARTED BY RUNNING '/usr/sbin/squid -D &' , 'TELNET
IP_OF_SQUID 8080' fails - GIVING ERROR " CONNECTION REFUSED". With
earlier squid binary it was allowinng the telnet on 8080 port.

- Just after running '/usr/sbin/squid -D &' I got below result.
 [root@test sbin]# ps -e|grep squid
 7071 ? 00:00:00 squid
BUT after some time -
 [root@test sbin]#ps -e|grep squid
 [root@test sbin]#
 (means squid died).

- Nothing is being logged in /val/log/squid/cache.log or
/val/log/squid/access.log

Seeking help.
