hi. running squid in accelerator mode _with_ auth works fine so far (faq 23.6.), squid and apache are validating user creds against the same files (individual squid authenticator, thanks go to henrik!). apache serves various sites with different htpasswd-files. the squid authenticator too uses all of these files. so depending on the virthost requested by the user and his account, he could get an resulting errormessage either from squid OR apache. because of that he may find extended information about his account to tell if it is valid on any other htpasswd (if he gets an auth error from apache, he knows his account is valid for at least one other htpasswd running on this system, since squid did let him in). to always have squid be the "master" authenticator, is it possible to define more than one auth_param basic program, assign them with acl-like names and use multiple proxy_auth directives with http_access and url_regex definitions? the aim is, to have one auth_param for every url_regex match. any idea is appreciated. sebastian -- b.
