The next Mandrake release (10.2 due next Month) seems to stick with Squid 2.5 STABLE6. To fix this problem should I use the latest Squid version built from source?

I am not aware of this problem in the official source distribution.

You should file a bug report with Mandrake. Quite likely there is a problem with their backporting of the patches and it would be good if they looked into this before release.
