For Squid to proxy requests for ftp:// objects you must be using a web browser configured to use Squid as proxy for FTP requests.
If you are using MSIE they you must also disable "folder view for FTP" in the advanced Interent Options, as MSIE does not support the use of proxies for FTP if this is enabled.
