This (together with the second patch) is a better fix than the one I had.
Actually the second patch is enough to fix the bug, but this patch makes it safer.

Maybe a better subject would be:
red_worker: do not send internal images with stride > bpp*width to lz_compression. or
  red_worker: do not lz compress internal images with stride > bpp*width
