Actually,  I got (IIRC) the same error when I booted up 2.6.30 vanilla, 
using the same config (as much as possible)  as my currently
in-production 2.6.25-gentoo-r2 (SMP) on UltraSparc Enterprise2

don't have a test machine to play with, and this is at a remote
facility-  break on console isn't enough to get back to PROM
after this, for some reason, so I have to drive out to power-cycle.
