This is odd. 2.6.18-rc3 works fine here on E250 and Ultra-5, both with
serial console...
Compiler problem? I see you're using a recent 4.1... Here's my
/proc/version:

I test 2.6.18-rc2 over rsc console and I see nothing after
Uncompresing Linux.... With 2.6.17.2 work well. E250 Debian Sid.
I will test 18rc-3 and see.
