Try the Script-Fu text circle script with non-ASCII characters and you will know why this is a good thing[tm]. AFAIK the plan is to make Tiny-Fu able to read Script-Fu scripts as well, if possible. Then the planned transition from Script-Fu to Tiny-Fu as the default scripting engine of GIMP will be more smooth as it would be today.
