Anonymous access would have been fine. Red Hat has not been providing .iso files for their Linux/390 distribution, so that isn't an option. The binary RPM files you want would be in ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/7.2/en/os/s390/RedHat/RPMS/ The images directory contains the installation kernels and ramdisks, not what you're after. Are you sure you guys wouldn't want to pay a few bucks and have someone that's done this before help out? This was done because they could not find any .ISO files to work with. Neither could they find any binary files at this ftp site. They logged in as anonymous. Perhaps one needs a registered login to get the better files? We somehow are, perhaps, not using this ftp site properly? I just now checked this ftp site and also failed to find any .ISO files. However, I did see an IMAGES directory containing some interesting .IMG and parameter files. Unfortunately, our system programmers are unsure of how they might be used. As for MySQL, I will see if I can get some direction on how to set up that initial root user from the mysql list. I seem to be in a catch-22 where MySQl requires a root user, and the mysqladmin command to set it up in turn requires MySQL. Regards, Ken Illingsworth >>> "Post, Mark K" <mark.post@eds.com> 11/21/02 03:21PM >>> Kenneth, I'm not quite sure what might be the problem, but I'm curious as to why you didn't download one of the Red Hat binaries for Linux/390? They have several mySQL-related packages there. ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/7.2/en/os/s390/ Mark Post -----Original Message----- From: Kenneth Illingsworth [mailto:ILLINGSK@cityofrochester.gov] Sent: Thursday, November 21, 2002 2:37 PM To: redhat-s390-list@redhat.com Subject: The last Linux distribution I installed was my first installation on an i686 platform, and it alread The last Linux distribution I installed was my first installation on an i686 platform, and it already had MySQL installed. This time I am trying to build up a RH Linux s390 OS on a virtual Machine. So far, I have managed to install Webmin and start Samba ok. Furthermore, I was able to tar the following download file: mysql-3.23.53-unknown-linux-gnu-s390.tar.gz There were many download choices for MySQL on the mysql.com site, but this one had s390 in its name and so I went for it. I noticed a configure program was present, so I launched it. Everything seemed ok until I noticed the last line. Here were what appears to be the pertinant results: [root@cofr3 mysql-3.23.53-unknown-linux-gnu-s390]# ./configure NOTE: This is a MySQL binary distribution. It's ready to run, you don't need to configure it! To help you a bit, I am now going to create the needed MySQL databases and start the MySQL server for you. If you run into any trouble, please consult the MySQL manual, that you can find in the Docs directory.
