Was me. 
The story apparently was that the 'iucv patch' also contained a fix
for the memory management code. Since I am suffering a lot from 
corrupted file systems these days I picked up the updated SuSE 
kernel, since it is very difficult to find what IBM patches landed 
into which SuSE update :-(

I found out that one of the patches added by SuSE was against one of
the patch files itself that were (unintended) left in /usr/src/linux
