two tools that I just heard years after learning about packaging are :

debootstrap  - debian like

febootstrap - redhat like

So you can simulate your package being installed on a VERY BASIC and fresh-installed system =) pretty useful.

hello all,

can someone suggest a couple of good books / information sources on rpm packaging.

i really need a "ground up" introduction / best practices.

i have a production build environment running on linux using ant to do the build.

our packaging system (at this time) is a large .tar file (of a directory structure) that we distribute.

i need to convert all of this to rpms.

thank you
mark
