I set my platform to "sparc-sun-solaris2.8" in 
~/.SunOS/5.8/sun4u/etc/rpm/platform because my Solaris version of rpm 
resides in ~/.SunOS/5.8/sun4u/... as I am not an admin on the machine.
I patched and rebuilt rpm to redefine the hard-coded /etc/rpm/platform
and now my %ifos stuff works in %build, %files, etc.
