prevent rpm from stomping permissions of specific files?

How can I prevent rpm from stomping permissions of site-specific config 
files in /etc ? I'd like to mark specific files that rpm is not allowed to 
mangle, because the permissions of an /etc config file got stomped in a 
recent yum update and broke a production server.
