Sadly, the right thing to do seems to be to bend over
and really learn how to write a spec file, and how to
run rpmbuild. I'm going through that process now
for the second or third time. Each time it gets
a little easier. This mailing list, and its archives,
also help. For instance, I'm using the technique
mentioned in https://www.redhat.com/mailman/private/rpm-list/2004-July/msg00015.html
to run rpmbuild without mucking with dotfiles in my home directory.
The bugzilla for rpm can also help when you run into problems
(amazingly, rpm as of 4.2 was still pretty buggy).
