After a bit more looking into the rpm-list (I _really_ miss a decent 
search interface) I found some reference to LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5

exporting this fixes the rpm issue.

But according to

this would be required by a NTPL/non-NTPL mix.

However, as far as I understand things RH9's rpm needs a NTPL aware 
kernel. But doesn't the FC2 kernel already have support for NTPL out of 
the box?

If so, why is LD_ASSUME_KERNEL needed than?
