Hello Everyone :) I must admit that I only suspect that this is RPM related, but I'm not 100% sure. I'll begin with a summary about why I only think it might be an RPM issue: the RPM in question appears to build fine, but the error quoted in the subject line of this email comes up only when installing it. Anyway, here's the problem in detail: I make Fedora Core RPM's for Krename, which of course is a KDE/QT based application. This is such a mystery to me that I think I will describe the problem in the format of two numbered lists, the first being "Usual Behavior", the second being "Undesired Behavior" "Usual Behavior:" 1. I Download the tarball of the new version of Krename, and make minor changes to the spec file, re-archive it, and run "rpmbuild -ta krename-2.*.*,tar.bz2" on it. 2. I upload the finished RPM to our churches web server, download it, and then attempt to install it, usually with "rpm -Fvh krename-(current version)" 3. The result of the above steps, until my last two RPM's, has been perfect success. "Undesired Behavior:" 1. Re-read steps 1 and 2 above to see what the first two steps are to get the undesired behavior. 2. Just like above, the RPM finishes building apparently without error. Problem is, when I attempt to install it, with the same command that I always use, I get the error that I quote in the subject line of this email. What makes this really strange is that if I compile and install, let's say for example's sake, krename 2.9.4 from the source tarball, it compiles, installs and runs perfectly, with full functionality and performance. Not only that, but if I copy "CONTENTS.cpio" from the krename 2.9.4 RPM that I just got done telling you causes the error that is quoted in the subject line of this email, it runs perfectly. The following link is to a tarball that contains the entire output of "rpmbuild -ta krename-2.9.4.tar.bz2" and the error message that I also quoted above: http://www.faith4miracle.org/krename/krename-2.9.4-RPM-ErrorLogs.tar.bz2 The following two links are to the two defective RPM's that are at question. I only mentioned 2.9.4 in this message, but I get the exact same error when I try to install the 2.9.3 RPM. http://www.faith4miracle.org/krename/krename-2.9.3-1rhfc1.i386.rpm http://www.faith4miracle.org/krename/krename-2.9.4-1rhfc1.i386.rpm Also, if any of you Fedora Core 1 guru's out there would like to make an RPM from the same tarball that I used to make the Krename 2.9.4 RPM, you will find it at the following location: http://krename.sourceforge.net/data/krename-2.9.4.tar.bz2 My operating system is Fedora Core 1, full installation (not an upgrade), all official updates installed including the kernel. I also installed every package (approx. 1400) My installation of KDE is from the CVS, and I have had extremely minimal issues compiling and installing it, and it's been wonderfully stable. My version of QT, which I have compiled all the KDE CVS modules against, is from TrollTech's official source tarball of qt 3.3.1 The compilation and installation of that went smoothly as well. I have the following KDE CVS modules installed: arts kdeaddons kdeadmin kdeartwork kdebase kdebindings kdeedu kdegames kdegraphics kdelibs kdemultimedia kdenetwork kdepim kdesdk kdetoys kdeutils kdewebdev koffice In closing, if none of you can help me, if you have any ideas about who to ask, other than the RPM list (I'm contacting them next), please let me know :) Almost forgot: please read the following from my response to a QT developer - Hello, Dimitri :) Here is the output of "locate libqt-addon.so": /home/steve/CVS/KDE-CVS/kdelibs/libqt-addon/libqt-addon/.libs/libqt-add on.so.0.0.0 /home/steve/CVS/KDE-CVS/kdelibs/libqt-addon/libqt-addon/.libs/libqt-add on.so.0 /home/steve/CVS/KDE-CVS/kdelibs/libqt-addon/libqt-addon/.libs/libqt-add on.so /usr/lib/libqt-addon.so.0.0.0 /usr/lib/libqt-addon.so.0 /usr/lib/libqt-addon.so Steven P.
