- ---------------------
The folks on the Fedora list suggested I post my question here.

I swapped a HD between an i586 (AMD K6-2, 500MHz) and an i686 (AMD
Athlon XP2800). Most of the new hardware for video and network NICs
were recognized when I first booted with the Athlon and all appears to
work well except for one thing.

There is a kernel update for Fedora core 1. When running up2date,
up2date still thinks I'm running an i586 instead of an Athlon. Also,
$HOSTTYPE = i386 instead of i686. If I download the correct RPM and try
to install it, I get a message indicating the rpm is for a Athlon
architecture and drops back to the command line.

I'm running rpm 4.2.1-0.30 off the Fedora core 1 ISO.

How can I correct this?

Mike Watson
