Hello, I am running 7.2, 2.4.18, with an "Intel Corporation 82801AA AC'97 Audio (rev 02)" audio device. I am also using KDE. Machine is a DELL Precision 220. >From a kde shell, if I do "play somesound.wav", I hear the sound and get the msg: sox: Sound card appears to only support singled word samples. Overriding format sox: Sound card appears to only support 2 channels. Overriding format I'm not sure what causes this msg but that's not what I'm actually concerned with. If KDE makes any sound, like the beep I get after hitting backspace on an empty shell command line - then audio no longer works. If I do "play somesound.wav" after KDE beeps, then I don't hear anything and get the msg: sox: Can't open output file '/dev/dsp': Device or resource busy If I wait about a minute or two, then it will work again. Is there anything I can do about this problem? It is really frustrating. Thanks, -Mark
