[Sound] Sound on IBM Intellistation

Hello,

I've installed RH7.3 on an IBM Intellistation E Pro (type 6214),
which has an on-board sound card, but can't get sound to work.

The sndconfig program recognizes the audio hardware as:

 Model: Intel Corp.|82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio

but no sound comes out of the speakers/phones attached to the line
out jack.

Can anybody suggest how I can get sound to work on this machine?
Has anybody successfully used the ALSA drivers on this particular
model? If I want to try the ALSA drivers, any tips on how I should
go about it?
