Re: How to format screwed-up hard drive and reinstall OS.

Thank you very much for your kind, quick reply. However, when I tried to boot from Windows CD (reinstallation CD that came w/ Dell computer), it brings me back to GRUB. Seems to me that I may require some sort of serious reformatting? My question is... how?

I tried a few things suggested by kind folks here (see threads below), but it seems old Linux cannot be recovered. Partition seems to be quite severely damaged.

I've had best luck installing windows first, then doing the linux
install second. (when I want a dual boot machine that is).

Have you tried booting from the linux cd? Perhaps the old linux install
is still there! , and it just needs a reconfiguration of grub?
