Sorry about the confusion. Please see <ftp://updates.redhat.com/9/en/os/i386/> and
look for the Samba packages there. 2.2.7a is what I'm using for Samba. I think I
mixed up the version numbers because I've been downloading other similar software
with similar version numbers.

Yes, I knew that 3.0.9 were the latest, but they don't fix my problem. They
make it worse.
