Problem with date variable

Hi,

I am facing a strange problem that I noticed only today. The date variable for my user login displays the date in UTC format:
21:44:48 UTC 2004

However, when I check the date from my root login, I see the date correctly in MDT:
15:44:42 MDT 2004

I unchecked the UTC option in dateconfig. Still, the date command for my user login shows time in UTC. Why is not reading the same time that my root login is reading?

Do I need to log out of my system for the time to read correctly? This is a pain since all my e-mails have UTC times instead of MDT times.

Thanks,
Saurabh.
