Interesting, but if you really don't want to keep those old logs you'd be better off adjusting logrotate. The default (in /etc/logrotate.conf) is to cycle weekly and keep 4 week's worth. You could either change the "rotate 4" to something like "rotate 1", or add such a line to /etc/logrotate.d/syslog that affects only the syslog generated files. > I found houndreds of files on /var/spool/mqueue > don't know what they are 'coz I don't have printers > defined neither lpd system. > can i delete those files safely?? These are messages waiting to be sent by sendmail. If you have a lot piling up it might be an indicator of a problem with your mail system. The "mailq" command will list each message ID and why it's still sitting in the queue. In most cases they'll eventually be delivered or bounced back to the sender as undeliverable. - -- Matt Brodeur RHCE MBrodeur@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.NextTime.com He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man. -- Dr. Johnson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFA9AYmc8/WFSz+GKMRAlaHAKC3CeB+vaWMrSKjwi3EVlZPwU2UTACgwQPo vLfmvPfNzXJQ4U/RJVTwDBo= =IiPp -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- Shrike-list mailing list Shrike-list@xxxxxxxxxx https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/shrike-list
