usb mount stops working after update

Hi,folks

I used to mount my usb disk by
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb
It worked well.

But after I install all update for rh9 ( the kernel now is 2.4.20-31.9
instead of 2.4.20-8 ), it fails.
The flash light on the disk even doesn't become on after plug in.
and after run the same command, it shows
"mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device"

anyone has a clue?
