Printing an image from Gimp -

Can anyone tell me what I have wrong?  When I try to print an image from 
gimp I get a lot of text instructions instead of an the expected photo. 
This is a complete RH-9 install using CUPS.  I can save the image as a 
jpeg and print that from mozilla 1.7 but have not been able to print 
directly from gimp?
